The first principle of the Ordinariate is then about Christian unity. St. Basil the Great, the Church’s greatest ecumenist, literally expended his life on the work of building bridges between orthodox brethren who shared a common faith, but who had become separated from one another in a Church badly fragmented by heresy and controversy. He taught that the work of Christian unity requires deliberate and ceaseless effort...St. Basil often talked with yearning about the archaia agape, the ancient love of the apostolic community, so rarely seen in the Church of his day. This love, he taught, is a visible sign that the Holy Spirit is indeed present and active, and it is absolutely essential for the health of the Church.

Anglican priest ordained to Catholic priesthood in Savannah

December 11, 2013

Following his ordination, Fr. Lindsey gives his
blessing to Bishop Hartmayer.
In a first for the Catholic Diocese of Savannah, Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer ordained an Anglican priest to the Catholic priesthood Wednesday.

The Rev. Lucien Lindsey was ordained a Catholic priest at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah and incardinated in the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter is a structure, similar to a diocese, that was created by the Vatican in 2012 for former Anglican communities and clergy seeking to become Catholic.

It was established by Pope Benedict XVI for those of the Anglican heritage who enter full communion with the Catholic Church while maintaining distinctive elements of their theological, spiritual and liturgical patrimony.

Anglican Use Society of Savannah and the Low Country gather for their first Healing Service

“ Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” Matthew 18:19

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

Members of The Anglican Use Society of Savannah and the Low Country together with the Sisters of Our Lady of Confidence Carmelite Monastery were blessed to gather together Sunday, October 9th for  our first Healing Service. Father Martin Scott, founder of Servants of Divine Mercy, Peru (www.siervosdeladivinamisericordia.org) offered a special healing service for our Ordinariate bound community as well as for the Carmelite Sisters. The service was one of prayer, praise and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. A Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Rosary were prayed together . Special and personal prayer intentions were offered. Father Martin prayed and laid hands on the twenty –one  present. Our community found this to be a truly powerful and transforming experience. Following our service we shared cake and coffee as Father Martin talked about the infinite love and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ offered  to all who turn unto Him  asking and trusting in His Divine Mercy. We offer our heartfelt and humble thanks to Father Martin for so graciously and generously sharing his extraordinary spiritual gifts with us. What a blessing for our infant Anglo-Catholic Community.
