The first principle of the Ordinariate is then about Christian unity. St. Basil the Great, the Church’s greatest ecumenist, literally expended his life on the work of building bridges between orthodox brethren who shared a common faith, but who had become separated from one another in a Church badly fragmented by heresy and controversy. He taught that the work of Christian unity requires deliberate and ceaseless effort...St. Basil often talked with yearning about the archaia agape, the ancient love of the apostolic community, so rarely seen in the Church of his day. This love, he taught, is a visible sign that the Holy Spirit is indeed present and active, and it is absolutely essential for the health of the Church.

Background Information

We anticipate that Bishop Louis Falk, President of the ACA House of Bishops (HOB) and Bishops John Hepworth, TAC Primate, Peter D. Wilkinson O.S.G. Anglican Catholic Church of Canada, and Robert WS Mercer C.R., retired ACCC Bishop ) will have attended a meeting with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) at the Vatican between May 19 and 25th. Upon their return, we expect to receive answers and responses to the questions and concerns of the HOB regarding the Apostolic Constitution given to the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) in October 2009. The Anglican Church in America (ACA) is a member province of the TAC.

The ACA Executive Council and ACA House of Bishops will meet in at Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL, May 30-June 2. The DOW Standing Committee will meet June 4th, after which this Bishop (Bishop Williams) will present to the DOW the findings of the meeting with the CDF including the negatives and positives of these responses so that the Diocese of the West can meet in Synod at Fountain Valley, California, July 1-2, 2010 to pray and discern the "mind" of the Diocese in light of these latest facts regarding our petition for communion with the Holy See. This is a VERY important gathering, and I ask that you read carefully the paper which will be made available to every member of the DOW and to pray that God the Holy Spirit will guide us in our prayer and discussions at the beginning of July.

With this comes my prayer that our Diocese will be faithful to the Gospel in all things, and that we will come together with an openness to hear Our Lord as He directs His Church. May God bless the ACA and the Diocese of the West.
